Selling things through your website

Here we explain two ways of selling things through your website:

1. Through a Woocommerce Shop

2. Through a “Buy it Now button” connected to Paypal (for if you don’t need a full shop)

1. Setting up a WooCommerce Shop

In this section you’ll learn how you can use the shop modules to show the products of a WooCommerce shop. We’ll talk about the shop module that’s available to display your shop content, and we also have a set of videos that show you how to create products, work with tags, set up your shipping, etc.

We also point you to further useful resources such as WooCommerce’s documentation where setting up & configuring your shop is also explained  in great detail.

Let’s go!

1.2 The Shop Modules

1.1 The WooCommerce Plugin

The Divi theme has been designed to be compatible with the most popular and robust E-commerce plugin for WordPress: WooCommerce. This is a very good and free plugin. To install it, navigate to Plugins > add new in your dashboard:

In the WordPress Plugin directory, type WooCommerce in the search box, and click install:

Once installed, the plugin adds a couple of menu items to your dashboard: WooCommerce and Products:

To learn how to configure your shop and create your products, see the WooCommerce documentation here.

In the toggle below you’ll find a number of tutorial videos on working with WooCommerce. These are videos that we bought the license for to make them available to our clients – so we haven’t made these ourselves. We hope you’ll find them useful ♥

1.2 The Shop Module

Divi also has a Shop module for WooCommerce, which shows the products you’ve added to your shop.

Something very useful about the Shop Module is that you can use filters, for example by setting what kind of product category you would like to show in the module.

You can place several Shop Modules underneath each other, and for example setting each to display a different category. So for example T-shirts, followed by a Shop module set to only display Dresses, and another one only showing Shoes.

You can also create different pages for your shop for different categories of goods you have, by inserting a module on the page and setting it to only display, for example, the category Shoes (and this would then be your Shoes page).

You’ll find more detail on the Shop Module in the Module Library: Dawn Shop Module.

2. Buy it now buttons through PayPal

If there are just a few things you’d like to sell through your website, for example only an e-book, or just a single coaching session, you may not need a full shop. And in that case going for just a simple buy it now button is an easy and quick solution.

The idea is to create a button or a link on your website. And when someone clicks this link or button they go to PayPal to complete the payment. Below you see such a button as an example (going nowhere ; )

The way this works is by placing Paypal.me links on these buttons. You can create links for different amounts and in this way create different payment buttons for products or services you offer throughout your website.

To set up Paypal.me links you’ll need a Paypal business account. It is possible to set your logo so it looks branded. Please note that Paypal, like most payment processors, charges fees for processing your payments. Go to Paypal Fees here to see what those fees are.
